How we work together

A calm, clear, and organized approach to estate planning and probate.

Most clients come to us feeling some mix of responsibility, uncertainty, and sometimes grief. Our role is to replace confusion with clarity and to create a structured plan so you can move forward with confidence.

Listening first

Your first meetings are focused on understanding your family, your priorities, and your concerns. Scott Aubrey asks practical questions and gives you time to think through your options without pressure.

Explaining in plain language

Estate and probate terms can be intimidating. You will receive straightforward explanations, visual summaries when helpful, and written outlines you can review with your family.

Staying accessible

Clients appreciate prompt responses, clear timelines, and proactive updates. You will always know the status of your matter and what to expect next—whether you are signing a new plan or working through probate deadlines.

Estate planning focus

Designing plans that feel personal, not cookie-cutter.

We works with clients at every stage of life—from young professionals to retirees—to create or update plans that match their current season and long-term goals.

Every plan is designed to be understandable and workable for your family, not just technically correct. Clear structure today prevents confusion and conflict later.

You will leave the process with a binder of key documents, digital copies for secure storage, and a plain-language summary of how everything fits together.

Foundational documents

Wills, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives built around your values and preferences.

Trust planning

Revocable living trusts, special needs trusts, and other structures designed to protect beneficiaries and streamline administration.

Planning for life events

Guidance on planning around second marriages, blended families, closely held businesses, and charitable goals.

Probate & trust administration

Guiding families through probate with compassion and structure.

Losing a loved one is difficult enough without paperwork deadlines and court procedures. We frequently represents personal representatives and trustees, helping them understand their duties and move each matter forward step by step.

You will receive a clear roadmap of the process, from opening the estate through final distributions, along with help coordinating with financial institutions, beneficiaries, and the court.

Typical probate timeline

  • Initial meeting and review of the will and assets
  • Filing with the probate court and appointment of personal representative
  • Notifying heirs and creditors, gathering asset information
  • Paying valid debts and expenses, addressing tax matters
  • Preparing final accounting and distributing remaining assets

At each stage, we explain your options, prepare the required filings, and help you keep the process on track and compliant with court requirements.

Trusted by families and professionals

A reputation for patience, organization, and clear communication.

Many of our clients are referred by financial advisors, accountants, and other attorneys who appreciate our collaborative approach and attention to detail.

“Scott walked us through every step of updating our wills and trust in language we could actually understand. We never felt rushed, and we left feeling relieved and organized.”

What to expect when you reach out

Common questions about working with Aubrey Law.

What happens during the initial consultation?

Your consultation is a working conversation, not a sales pitch. We will discuss your family, your assets at a high level, any existing documents, and your goals. Scott Aubrey will outline potential options, answer your questions, and recommend whether a basic or more comprehensive plan—or probate representation—is appropriate. You are welcome to take time to think before deciding how to proceed.

Do I need to have everything organized before I call?

No. Many clients reach out before they have gathered every document or account statement. It is helpful to have a general idea of your assets, how they are titled, and who you would like to name in key roles, but Scott Aubrey will provide checklists and guidance to help you gather anything that is missing.

How are fees structured for estate planning and probate?

Whenever possible, estate planning services are offered on a flat-fee basis that is discussed and agreed upon in writing before work begins. Probate and trust administration are typically handled on an hourly or percentage basis, depending on the complexity of the estate and applicable state law. You will receive a clear engagement agreement describing the fee structure before you are asked to sign anything.

Can you work with my financial advisor or accountant?

Yes. With your permission, Scott Aubrey is happy to coordinate with your financial advisor, accountant, or other professional advisors to help ensure your estate plan is aligned with your broader financial and tax strategy.
